Q & A18th Feb 2006 Computer monitors for digital photographyDo you have any advice or recommendations on computer monitors for digital photography. I am seeking to upgrade my 17" TFT monitor to process better in Adobe CS2 my images shot in RAW on my Nikon D200. I believe that I need a high contrast ratio but I am unsure about the brightness factor or the response rate. 3rd Jan 2006 Epson 3200 colour negative scans - faint lines of density change in even tone areasMy medium format scans from both colour slides and b-w negatives are very successful on all counts. However my scans from colour negatives usually show faint banding which is always in the direction that the scanner platen moves in. This is not a print problem as the faint lines of density change show on the screen particularly at around 33 or 50 per cent. The negs are also clean and show no problems when printed conventionally. The problem shows using all software-Epson-Silverfast-Viewscan etc. Kindly note the banding is usually across the sky area and is NOT dramatic but does make my prints non-saleable to a critical eye. I would immediately replace my scanner if this would cure the problem. But as my transparency and mono negs scan extremely well for my uses i am a little stuck.Any help or similar experiences welcome. 27th Nov 2005 Is printer profiling really necessary?David, your review of ICC profiling software in Aug/sept F2 suggested that the Calibr8 software was a worthwhile investment for profiling a printer when a number of different papers are to be used and/or calibating a number of printers to the same output. However in reviewing the Epson R300 in connection with Konica/Minolta papers in the Summer photoWorld you appear to dismiss seperate ICC profiling software as unnecessary. Please could you clarify whether such software is worthwhile. Thanks. 19th Oct 2005 Should I release the copyright, and at what cost?I have a client who will be paying me for a day shoot plus image scanning, RAW conversion etc. The quote for that is quite straightforward, but they are asking for copyright for all of the images created on that day...... and this is new territory for me. I have always held copyright, and releasing it will deprive me of future image sales. If they insist on copyright then I believe I should negotiate additional (possibly substantial) payment. Am I correct in this assertion, or should they expect copyright as part of the deal?
